About The Lock Inn

The Lock Inn began life as a cottage before being converted to a public house by an
industrious homeowner who started providing liquid refreshment to all  the hard working canal workers. An early landlord, Harry Davies, is said to have taken payment for ale in
cargoes from the passing boats. This resulted in drunken boatmen with their wallets still full but their boats half empty!

Our aim is to provide quality home cooked, locally produced food in a relaxed and friendly environment; whether that is sitting by our roaring fire in the bar or basking in the sunshine
outside on our canalside patio.

If you decide to eat a beef product off our menu when you visit then your in for a real treat. As well as running The Lock Inn as a family we also have a dairy and livestock farm barley a mile away in the hamlet of Blakeshall.

Farmed over four generations we have always strived to produce the finest product we can whilst also respecting the beautiful countryside that exists all around us in the area. Our beef herd consists of a couple of breeds, Aberdeen Angus and Limousine. Spending the summer months grazing the lush pasture and the winters indoors out of the elements makes for a happy cow; and a happy cow makes for a tasty meal!

Hauntings at The Lock?

Various stories of ghosts exist but we’ve not managed to confirm this as yet...well except for the Victorian schoolmistress who frequents the cupboard in the women’s toilets!
