Roast dinner home reared British beef at the lock inn wolverley

Farming, family and food.

Do you know where your food comes from? In recent weeks it’s seemed difficult to avoid the media coverage on how farming and food are linked together. With BBC reports, Countryfile and channel 5’s Springtime on the Farm programmes, locally sourced, sustainable British food has been at the top of the media’s menu.

British food is well known to be excellent in quality and over the years there’s been a real move to make farming as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. Where buying organic and sustainably sourced food in supermarkets can be more expensive there’s a way you can support locally sourced food without breaking the bank and enjoy a treat at the same time! By choosing to eat out at local venues that support local producers and farmers, you’re supporting it too.

So, if you fancy trying out some local produce and ‘tasting the difference’ for yourself (to borrow a tag line!) then there are several local cafés, tearooms, pubs and restaurants to visit. Here’s a few ideas to explore:

Wolverley Arboretum; A farm, a beautiful woodland and some tasty locally sourced treats and food is grown, produced and served here. A lovely and relaxing day for all the family as well as supporting a unique local attraction.

The Old Smithy Tearoom, Wolverley; Serving freshly made homemade cakes and treats, even the bread for the amazing bacon butties is made in Kinver. Local producers are supported too; the local honey is lip-smackingly good when it’s in season.

The Lock Inn, Wolverley: Famous for its freshly cooked food and for the Bishop’s beef that’s raised on the family farm just outside of the village. The Lock has now launched the Cowshed Restaurant. Combining the farming family’s heritage with high-quality, fine food that is locally sourced and sustainably grown. Full to the brim with delicious dishes and enjoyed in a newly decorated and unique setting.
